A pelican almost went hook, line and sinker near Haulover Inlet, but Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews gave it a new lease on life after rescuing it from entangled fishing line Tuesday afternoon.
Around 3 p.m., several reports rolled in of the pelican entangled in a fishing hook and line, fire rescue said. Firefighters and the U.S. Coast Guard’s Miami Sector quickly sailed over to the animal in distress near the 10300 block of Collins Avenue.
The pelican was hoisted aboard a fire boat where it was carefully removed from the hook and line.
“The pelican showed no signs of distress and was able to swim and fly away on its own,” fire rescue said.
