New Year’s events will bring sweeping road closures to Miami Beach. What to know
To ring in the new year, the cities and villages of Miami Beach, Surfside and Bal Harbour will be holding several events, but with them comes several road closures that will bring mood-dampening traffic.
Beginning Wednesday, New Year’s Eve, the police departments of Miami Beach, Surfisde and Bal Harbour will be enacting temporary traffic patterns. The intermittent closures will last until late evening.
Here’s what streets will be affected :
87th Street and Collins Avenue
Large trucks will not be allowed through beginning at 10 a.m. Northbound lanes on Collins Avenue will be closed starting at noon. Traffic going north will be detoured west and redirected to Harding Avenue.
86th Street and Byron Avenue
Average-sized vehicles will be allowed through, but oversized vehicles, including commercial delivery trucks and passenger vans, will not be allowed to go north starting at 10 a.m.
85th Street and Byron/Harding Avenues
Law enforcement may periodically manually direct traffic along these streets, as officials are anticipating holiday congestion.
93rd Street and Collins Avenue
Large trucks will be restricted beginning at 10 a.m., and then all northbound lanes on Collins Avenue between 93rd and 96th Streets will be closed starting at noon.
