A man was killed after two boats crashed Sunday near Key Biscayne’s Nixon Beach, officials say.

Luis A. Suarez, 63, was identified as the man killed in the crash, which happened shortly after 4 p.m., according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Suarez was the operator of one of the boats, a 34-foot Intrepid center console.

The Intrepid and a 34-foot Midnight Express collided while traveling in Biscayne Bay, according to the FWC, the lead investigative agency. Suarez was taken to the hospital, where he died.

The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Miami also responded to the crash on Sunday. A boat crew in Miami Beach arrived and gave aid to Suarez, who was later taken by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue for further treatment.

The FWC’s investigation is ongoing.
