Gloria Estefan was already one of the most famous residents of star-studded Miami Beach. Now, she’ll have a street in her name.

The city will hold a ceremony Monday to name 13th Street in South Beach in honor of the music legend. The Cardozo Hotel, owned by Estefan and her husband Emilio, sits at the corner of 13th Street and Ocean Drive.

“Gloria Estefan is a true Miami Beach treasure,” Mayor Steven Meiner said in a statement.

“She and Emilio have not only shaped the soundtrack of our lives with their iconic music, but they’ve also invested deeply in our community as proud Miami Beach business owners and caretakers of the historic Cardozo Hotel on Ocean Drive,” Meiner added. “Their legacy is woven into the very fabric of our city.”

Estefan, 68, fled Cuba for Miami with her family in 1960 at the age of 2. She is widely regarded as the “Queen of Latin Pop.”

“Gloria embodies the American dream,” said Miami Beach Commissioner Laura Dominguez. “She came from Cuba and found tremendous success in Miami Beach, where she raised a beautiful family with the love of her life.”

The Miami Beach Commission for Women recommended Estefan for the honor. The street naming ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at 13th Street and Ocean Drive.

Also on Monday, NPR will release a performance by Estefan as part of its signature Tiny Desk concert series.
