Nearly 100 people were displaced after a blaze swept through a Miami Beach hostel on Monday evening, with the Red Cross stepping in to help.

The fire happened around 5:15 p.m. at South Beach Rooms and Hostel, 236 Ninth St., according to Lissi Hernandez, a spokesperson for Miami Beach Fire Rescue. Firefighters put out the fire that was contained to the second floor.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

While no injuries were reported, local American Red Cross volunteers of the Disaster Action Team from the Greater Miami & the Keys Chapter coordinated emergency aid to the 98 people impacted by the fire.

“The Red Cross is providing emergency financial assistance, health and mental health services, one-on-one support to connect people to available recovery assistance,” the non-profit said in a statement.

Hostel employees have also worked to relocate guests, fire rescue said.
