Traffic alert: Expect delays and detours for Miami Beach visit of Vice President Harris

Vice President Kamala Harris is visiting Miami Beach on Wednesday — and for drivers, that could mean delays and detours.

Here’s what to know:

Miami Beach visit

Arrival: Vice President Harris is scheduled to arrive at Miami International Airport at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Appearances: Harris will deliver remarks at a fundraiser in Miami Beach at 4:15 p.m. Then she will speak at 6:05 p.m. at the Aspen Ideas climate conference at the New World Center near Lincoln Road. Harris will appear with singer Gloria Estefan on the Biden administration’s climate priorities.

Departure: The vice president will depart from the Miami airport at 8:10 p.m.

Impact on traffic

Delays: The city of Miami Beach warns of “periodic road closures” between 3 and 8 p.m. Wednesday in the following areas:

Julia Tuttle Causeway, which connects State Road 112 (Airport Expressway) with mid-Miami Beach.

41st Street in Miami Beach.

Alton Road.

The Lincoln Road and Washington Avenue areas around 17th Street, a site of the Aspen conference.

Alternate routes: Take causeways to the south and north, including:

MacArthur Causeway, which connects State Road 836 to South Beach at Fifth Street.

79th Street Causeway, which connects Miami via North Bay Village to North Beach.

Arrival and departure: While the exact times of the vice president’s motorcade is not public, expect delays during the afternoon and evening hours on State Road 112, the Airport Expressway, or State Road 836, the Dolphins Expressway, the routes to Miami Beach from Miami International Airport.
