Spring break is coming to South Beach. What to know about road closings, rules, concerts
Spring break crowds are coming to South Beach this month.
What does that mean for the city?
Heavier traffic, street closings, special events and law enforcement crackdowns.
What you need to know about the changes:
Street closings and detours
Ocean Drive: Parts of Ocean Drive will be closed to cars, according to city spokesperson Melissa Berthier.
▪ March 4-5: Fifth to Eighth streets will be closed from Saturday at 7 a.m. to Sunday at 7 a.m.
▪ March 10-12: The same streets will be closed from 7 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Sunday.
▪ March 17-20: Ocean Drive will be closed to cars from 5th to 13th streets from 4 a.m. Friday, March 17, until 7 a.m. Monday, March 20.

Law enforcement
In addition to increased policing, the city will:
▪ Double its lifeguard staffing “as needed” in South Beach.
▪ Enhance code enforcement staffing.
▪ Conduct nightly fire inspections on weekends.
▪ Start a $20 flat rate in city parking garages in the entertainment district.
Events in South Beach
Events are planned for each weekend in March, mostly on the beach and in Lummus Park and along Ocean Drive.
Movie: Screening of “The Birdcage” at 7:30 p.m Friday, March 3, in Lummus Park at, 14th Street and Ocean Drive.
Music: Festival featuring performances by first responders throughout Saturday, March 4, at Sixth Street and Ocean Drive
Beach bash: Party produced by the National LGBTQ Task Force Sunday afternoon and evening, March 5, on the beach at 14th Street.
Baseball concerts: Concerts from 6 to 10 p.m. March 10 featuring Spam Allstars and Tito Nieves to promote the World Baseball Classic at Marlins Park
DJ, guitar and band concerts: Free concert March 11 at Sixth Street and Ocean Drive with a DJ set by Anderson .Paak and a performance by guitarist Nile Rodgers and his band CHIC.
Carnaval Miami: March 17-19, will bring Carnaval Miami — a popular street festival run by the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana — to Ocean Drive from 7th to 12th streets under the name “Art on the Drive.”
Fitness: Events through the month and a“fitness festival” along the beachfront on March 25 and 26.
