Two boaters who went missing Monday morning between Fisher Island and Bear Cut in Miami-Dade County were reported safe later in the afternoon.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said its officers began searching for the man and woman around 10 a.m. They were seen in a gray dinghy with a white hull heading toward Bear Cut near Key Biscayne.

FWC, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the Coast Guard participated in the search. Around 3 p.m. both the Coast Guard and FWC said the boaters were safe on land — but they did not say what happened to them earlier in the day.

“Staff have confirmed that both missing boaters have been located. There are no additional details at this time,” Shannon Knowles, an FWC spokesperson, said in an emailed statement.

The National Weather Service reported hazardous beach and boating conditions over the Presidents Day weekend throughout South Florida.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
