Pedestrian struck and killed on the MacArthur. Eastbound lanes to Miami Beach re-opened

This story has been updated to reflect the reopening of eastbound MacArthur Causeway on Saturday afternoon.

All lanes heading east to Miami Beach on the MacArthur Causeway were closed for hours as police investigated an accident that killed a pedestrian Saturday morning.

Police say a man who was trying to cross from the north to the south side of the MacArthur was hit by a car just after 6 a.m. Saturday.

He was not in a designated crosswalk, police said.

The driver of the car stayed at the scene, which is just beyond Palm Island.

Police haven’t released details or names, yet, as they continue their investigation. Traffic flow resumed after noon.

Police had suggested that people heading to South Beach should take the Julia Tuttle or the Venetian Causeway.
