As the sun rose Sunday morning, more than 300 people gathered in Miami Beach to celebrate Easter with prayer and reflection.

The service, led by Calvary Church Miami Beach, began at 7 a.m. at 73rd Street and Collins Avenue and included baptisms in the ocean.

A sunrise service is one of several ways Christians across South Florida celebrated Easter, which represents renewal and rebirth. There were brunches, egg hunts, daytime services and other gatherings.

On the beach, worshipers lifted their hands to the sky as they gave praise in song. Some attendees, wearing white, went in the ocean to be baptized, while others found a quiet place to pray.
