Man stabbed with a broken bottle of alcohol on Memorial Day in South Beach
One person was stabbed with a broken bottle of alcohol at around 3:30 p.m. Monday on Ocean Drive, a day after a fight over a parking space in South Beach on Sunday night left two people dead.
In the stabbing, one of two suspects was detained and another is still at large, Miami Beach police officials said Monday afternoon. The stabbing happened on Sixth Street and the beach.
“A large fight took place,” said police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez. “During the fight, a male was stabbed by a subject using a bottle. The fighters separated and fled in multiple directions. A BOLO was issued for a male wearing a black tank top and black shorts.”
The male victim, whom police did not identify, was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center by the Miami Beach Fire Department. It is unclear if the man lives in Miami-Dade. The victim, who is in stable condition, chose not to press charges, police said.
The stabbing followed a deadly altercation Sunday night in South Beach. Around 10:35 p.m. Sunday, an argument broke out between two parties over a parking space at Second Street and Ocean Drive. As men argued over the parking space, one pulled a gun and fired two to three shots, Miami Beach police said. One man who was shot at the scene later died at Ryder Trauma Center.
Meanwhile, a BMW with New York plates fled the scene. Miami Beach police chased the car, with the chase ending at Sixth and Alton after the BMW crashed into two Miami Beach police cars. One of the four suspects in the BMW was shot by two Miami Beach police officers. He also died at Ryder.
The stabbing and shootings happened during a busy Memorial Day weekend on Miami Beach, with an Air-and-Sea show plus countless parties stemming from Urban Beach Week.
