Miami Beach police are trying to figure out how the shooting of two men who were found in separate locations an hour apart might be connected.
Police know this: A man shot several times flagged down an officer at 12:30 a.m. Monday on Seventh Street between Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive. Before he was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries that included a gunshot wound to his stomach, the man gave police a description of a vehicle.
That car, a Honda Civic was stopped by police within an hour several blocks north on 19th Street and Convention Center Drive.
Inside the car: four people, including a man who had a gunshot wound to his hand. He was taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center.
The three other people in the car were still at police headquarters Monday afternoon on Washington Avenue being interview by police.
No names have been released and no arrests have been made - yet.
“It’s unknown if the victim’s know each other or what led to the incident. They’re looking at evidence in the car,” said Miami Beach Detective Vivian Thayer. “They could have shot each other, or maybe the man in the car shot himself after.”
A tourist named Dbruine Johannes who was near the scene just off Ocean Drive told Miami Herald news partner CBS4 that he “thought it was fireworks from spring break.”
