A man was killed when a car he was working on rolled and pinned him Wednesday morning in Little Havana, according to Miami Police.

The fatal accident happened around 9 a.m. near the intersection of Southwest Seventh Avenue and Southwest Eighth Street, police say. Emergency units responded after reports of a pedestrian being struck.

Officers found a 46-year-old man trapped under a car. Miami Fire Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police say the man’s gear shifts were not working properly so he went under the van to manually shift it into drive and reverse. But he did not engage the emergency brake, police say. When the van shifted into drive — the man was run over and pinned with the back tires.
