A woman was hit by a train near a railroad crossing in Flagami on Tuesday morning.

The train was heading southbound on tracks near Robert King High Park in Miami’s Flagami neighborhood when the woman crossed the tracks to avoid the train, said Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll. The train was passing by an area where several people experiencing homelessness have an encampment.

Carroll said the woman was still close to the tracks when the train operator spotted her, slowed down and blared the horn.

“The front side of the train clipped her,” Carroll said.

Carroll said the woman was conscious when first responders found her with a serious leg injury. She was taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she is in stable condition.
