Gas smell at Miami-area apartment building is from underground vault, fire-rescue says

More than 20 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to a gas leak at an apartment building Friday morning and continued efforts to shut off the source into early afternoon.

Firefighters got a call shortly before 6 a.m. of a strong smell of gas through a three-story building at 305 NW 72nd Ave., the department said.

Hazmat crews eventually located the leak coming from an underground vault.

At noon, the department said almost two dozen units remained at the scene working with a gas company to shut the leak.

“There are no reported injuries,” the department said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
