Firefighters battle blaze at a nearly century-old apartment building in Little Havana
A major roadway reopened after a fire at a nearly century-old, three-story apartment building in Little Havana shut down several streets for hours on Thursday afternoon.
The blaze began around 1 p.m. at 536 SW Seventh Ave., a structure built in 1926, Lt. Pete Sanchez, a spokesman for the City of Miami Department of Fire-Rescue, told the Miami Herald.
Sanchez said no injuries were reported.
As a result, authorities closed several roadways near the blaze, including Seventh Street from Southwest Sixth Avenue to Southwest Seventh Avenue. It reopened around 6:30 p.m.
“Everything was boarded up and secured when we arrived,” Sanchez said. “It is said to be abandoned and we did not find anyone inside.”
