Woman with dementia walked away from Flagami home and disappeared. She has been found
Update: Miami police said on Wednesday that Sandra Medina, 61, was found safe.
Ricardo Karoba said his longtime girlfriend Sandra Medina was “ranting and raving” when he got home from work just after 5 p.m. Monday.
Medina, 61, who suffers from dementia, then walked away from the Flagami home they share and disappeared. She had nothing with her except the clothes she was wearing, a few rings on her fingers and a medical alert bracelet that has Karoba’s phone number.
“She is unwell,” Karoba said, adding that Medina was angered by him calling police to intervene. “She is in crisis. She needs help.”
Police put a out a flier Monday night asking for the community’s help in finding Medina.
Karoba said Medina’s condition has worsened over the last five years. He said she may be able to answer basic questions in Spanish including her name and birth date, but not much more.
He said she had wandered away about a year ago, but she was found nearby.
“I’ve been worried since the moment she left,” he said.
Medina is described as being 5 feet, 3 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds with short black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink Nautica shirt, blue jeans and blue loafers.
