Man left in critical condition after shooting in Little Havana

The Miami Police Department was investigating a shooting early Sunday Morning in Little Havana that left a man in critical condition.

The shooting happened at 6:30 a.m. at Northwest Sixth Street and Northwest 19th Avenue.

Miami Police spokeswoman Frederica Burden said police were trying to piece together what happened.

"We don't know the motive yet," she said. "We don't know if it was domestic, a drive-by, we are looking into everything.”

Relatives told Miami Herald news partner CBS4 that the victim was 23-year-old Brian Guifarro, a construction worker, who lived in Miami most of his life.

They told the station that he was out with some friends at a bar in Little Havana earlier in the night, but they didn’t know what led to Guifarro being shot in the head.

“He’s humble. He’s a great friend. He’s just for other people – he’s willing to do anything for other people,” Wendy Mena, who is married to Guifarro’s cousin, told the station. “It’s not fair what they did to him.”

Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
