Cyclist injured after being hit by car near Rickenbacker Causeway
A cyclist was sent to the hospital with apparent broken bones after being hit by a car Saturday morning on Key Biscayne.
The woman, who has not yet been identified, had been biking alone in the northbound lane of Crandon Boulevard when she was struck about 10:30 a.m. at the entrance to Crandon Park Beach.
A woman driving a silver Toyota Corolla was crossing Crandon, headed to the beach, when her car struck the cyclist. There was damage to the car's driver-side headlight.
The driver told bystanders that she didn't see the cyclist.
Miami-Dade police and fire rescue responded. The cyclist was conscious when she was taken by medics.
Calls for safety improvements on the Rickenbacker have echoed for several years, as four fatal collisions have occurred since 2006 along the county’s most popular bike route.
