Mother killed, daughter injured in hit-and run crash on Kendall Drive
The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for the driver of a car who slammed into a mother and her teenage daughter as they crossed Kendall Drive in Southwest Miami-Dade over the weekend and then took off.
The mother, identified as Benita Chacon Sanchez, 49, died Sunday at Kendall Regional Medical Center from her injuries. Her 18-year-old daughter, Marian Estefani, was taken to Kendall Regional in critical condition.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the pair was crossing Kendall Drive at Southwest 101 Avenue just before 11 p.m. Friday, not in a crosswalk.
A car heading east in the outside lane hit the pair and did not stop, FHP Spokesman Joe Sanchez said.
"The sad part here is whether it was the driver's fault or not, they should have stayed,” he said. “Now it's a criminal investigation.’’
