After violent crash on Florida’s Turnpike, 5-year-old dies from injuries
A 5-year-old girl died from injuries after a violent car accident Saturday on Florida’s Turnpike in Kendall.
Carla Vergara succumbed to her injuries late Saturday after the crash, which occurred on the turnpike in Southwest Miami-Dade just after 5 p.m. Saturday.
The girl was riding in a Jeep Liberty with two women and three other children heading northbound on the turnpike when a semi-trailer in the right lane began to close in on the Jeep, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Officials said the driver, 22-year-old Guillermina Vergara Cerda, braked to avoid a collision and lost control when the SUV fishtailed toward the right shoulder and rolled over four to six times.
Four of the Jeep’s occupants were ejected. All were rushed to local hospitals with serious or minor injuries.
Carla Vergara died around 10:20 p.m. at Kendall Regional Medical Center.
