Miami-Dade police car stolen from officer’s driveway

As far as stolen police vehicles go in South Florida, this one doesn’t rate that high on the Wacky Meter.

It wasn’t stolen by a hospital patient and taken for a joyride (as far as anybody knows). It wasn’t stolen from a presidential police detail and crashed into the Port Tunnel. And it wasn’t stolen and used for random drive-by shots at other cars.

This was just your mundane go-to-bed-with-your-car-outside, wake-up-needing-Uber deal. Like many a car theft. Except this 2008 Crown Victoria marked Miami-Dade police car contained a police helmet and bulletproof vest when stolen from a South Miami-Dade driveway in the area of Southwest 276th Street and 167th Avenue.

The officer arose after 8:30 a.m. to find her car — No. 1606A with license plate TB2396 — gone like Sunday night.
