Arc of South Florida’s annual Lawn Mower Race Saturday at Homestead Miami Speedway

The Arc of South Florida is hosting its fifth annual Lawn Mower Race at the Homestead Miami Speedway parking lot on Saturday, Jan. 30.

The event starts at 9:00 a.m. and the races begin at 10:00 a.m.

The race is held to raise program money for local people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, according to Arc.

The lawn mowers used in the race are loaned from Berry’s Paint and Hardware store.

There are three categories of competition: individual race ($25 entry fee), team race ($250 entry fee) and the pit stop challenge ($500 sponsorship fee).

In addition, a raffle is held and 25 prizes will be distributed to winners.

Rick Pace, of Arc of South Florida, started the event in 2011 and has been at the helm ever since.

“It’s a really fun event. It’s great to watch all the people on the lawn mowers,” he said.

The Arc of South Florida is a nonprofit organization founded in 1953 and provides services to children and adults with developmental disabilities.
