Homestead man arrested in MLK Day shooting of 14-year-old boy
Florida City Police arrested a Homestead man in connection with the Martin Luther King Day shooting of a 14-year-old boy.
Police arrested Adrian Harris, 41, Friday afternoon at his home. Officers found a car that matched the description of the vehicle leaving the shooting scene, as well as a gun that matched the caliber of the evidence collected.
Harris was booked on charges of attempted felony murder, owning a gun as a felon, aggravated assault with a gun and shooting a gun in public.
The teen shot, Martwan Santiago, 14, was hospitalized. Miami Herald news partner CBS4 reported that police believe the shooting was gang-related.
On Tuesday, as friends and neighbors decried Santiago’s shooting, Miami-Dade Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho tweeted his frustration.
“Incomprehensible that on the day we celebrate peace and courage, cowardly violence strikes again with the shooting of a 14 year old child,” he wrote.
