Authorities at the Homestead Air Reserve Base are investigating a fuel spill at the base that sent 17 people to the hospital.

The spill around 7 p.m. Tuesday was contained and cleaned up by first-responders from the base, said Maj. Brooke Cortez, a spokesman for the 482nd Fighter Wing.

No one was injured, but “17 personnel were sent to local hospitals for possible exposure in accordance with standard procedure and medical protocol,” Cortez said in an email.

All 17 were released from the hospital after testing for contamination.
