Florida City motel argument turns deadly as man shot in front of mother: deputies
An argument between two men at a Florida City motel spiraled out of control when one shot and killed the other in front of his own mother, deputies say.
Jeffrey Joseph Dabdoub Jr. was arrested Wednesday and is facing a charge of second-degree murder with a weapon, his arrest report read. As of Thursday afternoon, he still remained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
On the night of January 26, Dabdoub, 21, was arguing with an unidentified man inside a room at the Belmont Inn, 553 Northeast First Avenue in Florida City, the report read. It’s unclear what sparked the argument.
At some point, deputies said Dabdoub grabbed a gun and pointed it at the man, demanding he leave the room. The man came back to collect his belongings with his mother, meeting Dabdoub, who was still pointing his gun.
Dabdoub was also pointing the weapon at the man’s mother, causing the son to react, how exactly is unclear. This led Dabdoub to shoot him twice, the report read.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies responded and promptly brought Dabdoub in for questioning. Authorities said he gave them a “self-serving statement,” in which he allegedly admitted to the fatal shooting. Dabdoub was released pending further investigation.
Detectives gathered enough evidence to charge and arrest Dabdoub on Wednesday, the MDSO said.
