South Florida dog owner gets shocking call about her long-lost Buttercup
The streets of Miami-Dade County have been Buttercup’s home for more than 10 years after she went missing from her family. Now, slowing down from old age, the once lost dog was reunited with her family thanks to random chance, officials say.
On Tuesday, Miami-Dade County Animal Services shared that one of its enforcement officers was on routine patrol in the Homestead area when the officer stumbled upon Buttercup, which was limping. The officer hoisted her up and took her to the agency’s shelter.
There, it was determined Buttercup wasn’t injured, just a 15-year-old dog having difficulty walking. It was discovered she was microchipped, which allowed officials to trace her back to the Humane Society of Greater Miami, animal services said.
The Humane Society found Buttercup’s owner, who soon received a call they never thought they would get.
“Buttercup’s owner was shocked to learn she was alive, as it had been more than 10 years since Buttercup went missing,” said Miami-Dade Animal Services spokeswoman Gabriella Dominguez. “She had presumed she had passed away.”
Now back in her old home, Buttercup’s owner said she is doing well and settling back in.
