Meet the candidates for Homestead council. Here’s what they have to say
Homestead residents will elect two city council members on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
We asked the four candidates where they stood on key issues facing the city. Here’s how they responded:
Homestead Seat #5 (Waterstone)
Why are you running for office?
Erica G. Ávila: I am running for reelection because Homestead deserves leaders who stand with residents — not the political establishment. Homestead is where I’ve raised my children and supported my husband’s military service. I’m running to make our neighborhoods safer and more business-friendly, while voting “No” on overdevelopment that only adds to problems.
Sonia N. Castro: No response received.
What makes you the best candidate for the position you are seeking?
Erica G. Ávila: I’m independent and accountable only to the residents. My experience and results set me apart. I have worked for years with neighbors and county officials to improve our quality of life, and I am a consistent voice against unbalanced growth. My focus is fixing traffic, lowering taxes and safer neighborhoods, so families and businesses can thrive.
Sonia N. Castro: No response received.
What is the most pressing issue facing the community you wish to represent?
Erica G. Ávila: Traffic and poor infrastructure are most pressing. Our residents and small business community are struggling from it. Overdevelopment strains our roads, drives customers away and hurts quality of life. I’ve voted no on projects that make it worse and worked with county partners on solutions. I’ll keep fighting for a better, stronger Homestead.
Sonia N. Castro: No response received.
