The husband of a South Florida woman murdered in a bizarre carjacking last year pleaded guilty Thursday to being connected to a money-laundering conspiracy that was uncovered after her murder.
United States Magistrate Judge Robert Norway accepted Miguel Aguasvivas’ guilty plea to one count of conspiracy to engage in money laundering. Aguasvivas is facing a possible maximum of 20 years in prison and a fine up to $500,000. His sentencing date has yet to be scheduled.
Authorities said in federal court filings that Aguasvivas was involved in a money-laundering ring from December 2021 to April 2024.
On April 11, 2024, investigators said he sent his wife, Katherine Agusavivas, to Seminole County in Central Florida to pick up $170,000 from Giovany Joel Crespo Hernandez, one of several men indicted after Katherine’s murder.
On her way back to South Florida, Katherine was carjacked, kidnapped and killed by Jordanish Torres Garcia, Kevin Ocasio Justiniano and others, investigators said.
