Fort Lauderdale police on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, arrested a man wanted in connection to a Sept. 15, 2023, sexual assault of a woman inside her apartment.

A dispute between a tenant and his landlord turned deadly at a Homestead apartment complex Monday afternoon, police said.

During the argument, at a complex on Southwest First Avenue, the tenant pulled out a knife and stabbed the other man, Miami-Dade police Detective Andre Martin said.

The tenant then barricaded himself inside his apartment with the landlord, according to police. A Homestead Police Department tactical team entered the building and found the victim, whom Miami-Dade police said they are not naming, on the floor with stab wounds.

In the process of arresting the tenant, identified by Miami-Dade police Tuesday afternoon as Eduardo Darinel Galvez, 22, officers used a stun gun on him.

Both men were taken to the hospital, where the landlord died from his injuries, Martin said. After being checked out for the stun gun injury, doctors medically cleared Galvez, and police arrested him, added Miami-Dade police spokesman Detective Angel Rodriguez.

Galvez was charged with second-degree murder. As of Tuesday afternoon, he’s being held on no bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He was on probation on misdemeanor trespassing and resisting an officer without violence charges.

Police said they’re not releasing the landlord’s name because his family invoked a controversial law often called “Marsy’s law,” which was intended to protect living victims of violent crimes.
