In a battle between the city’s two top elected officials, Homestead Mayor Steve Losner was reelected Tuesday night, defeating Vice Mayor Julio Guzman.

Losner, who was first elected as mayor in 2019, led with about 60% of the vote, according to preliminary election night results. Guzman won about 35% of the vote.

A third challenger, candidate Sonia Castro Natal, came in last.

Seat 6 (Oasis)

The top two candidates in the Seat 6 City Council race are headed to the November general election after none of the four people running managed to secure more than 50% of the vote.

Candidate Toshiba Mitchell led the pack Tuesday night with about 39% of the vote. It appears likely that she will face Clemente Canabal in November, although less than 50 votes separated Canabal from candidate Brandy Ramirez.

Carlos Galvan was in fourth place.

The Seat 6 candidates are vying to replace Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough-Staggers.

Three additional City Council seats will be decided at the November 7 election:

  • Seat 1 (Northwest)
  • Seat 2 (Keys Gate)
  • Seat 3 (Villages)
