More than 90 cats were rescued from a Miami-area house. Watch what they’re doing now
More than 90 cats were rescued from a Cutler Bay house. County agents say they were living in deplorable conditions and not getting the care they needed.
The felines are in now in county hands and awaiting medical attention. A video shows some of them playing and recuperating in their new surroundings.
On Thursday, a warrant was served on the South Miami-Dade home, 20536 SW 93rd Ave., as a result of an animal cruelty investigation conducted by Miami-Dade Animal Services, authorities said.
The investigation started after a complaint came in through the county 311 call center, Animal Services said.
Officials found 93 cats “in distress living under deplorable conditions,” Animal Services said. After being rescued from the home, the cats were examined by a veterinary team that will assess their health for treatment.
Videos of the rescued show kittens to adult cats with mild to serious injuries, such as damaged eyes and matted coats.
“You cannot imagine the smell inside the house,” an Miami-Dade Animal Services worker can be heard saying in one video.
Once Animal Services gets custody of the cats, they will go up for adoption.
Miami-Dade police are conducting an investigation into the home.
According to property records, Ana Bello owns the home. The Miami Herald could not reach her Thursday.
