1 teen arrested, 2 others injured after shots fired inside a hotel room in Homestead

A teenager was arrested late Tuesday and two others were injured after shots were fired inside a hotel room in Homestead, police said.

It happened at the Floridian Hotel, 990 N Homestead Blvd., shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said they responded to the hotel after receiving reports of “shots fired” and found about five people inside one of the hotel rooms.

Two of them were shot — a man in his midsection and a woman in the hip, according to police. Investigators later told WSVN that several of the people inside the room were juveniles and that the two victims were 18 years old.

Another 18-year-old, Angel Ruiz, was later arrested and charged with culpable negligence involving a firearm and discharging a firearm in public, according to Homestead police.

Based on the initial investigation, it appears that the group was holding a small gathering involving alcohol inside the hotel room. At some point, Ruiz brandished his firearm “which fired” and struck the other man, according to police. The bullet went through the man’s midsection and struck the woman in the hip.

Both victims, whose identities have not been disclosed yet, were airlifted to the hospital and are currently in stable condition, according to police.

Police said the incident is still under investigation.
