Homestead - South Dade

Several old safes, ATM fished out of southwest Miami-Dade canal. How did they get there?

Miami-Dade police went fishing in a Princeton canal in south Miami-Dade Thursday morning, and didn’t snag any bass or tarpon.

Instead, they wrangled in several old safes and an ATM.

On Wednesday, a resident in the area called police to report what could be several safes in a narrow canal. Police said it was too dark out to send a dive team, so a search would have to wait until morning.

Just after 8 a.m. Thursday, dive teams arrived and got to work. Officers pulled out several old safes and one ATM using a tow truck’s crane.

Police are investigating to find out how these items landed in the canal and what was inside of them.
