Ana Davide didn’t know 2-year-old Carnell Williams-Thomas or his family. But when she heard of the toddler’s tragic death Friday from a stray bullet in Goulds, the mother and criminal defense attorney with clients in the area wanted to do something to help.
So, after reaching out to the grieving family, Davide has set up a GoFundMe page with the goal of raising $3,000 for the boy’s funeral.
As of Sunday afternoon, the page had raised $1,150. Davide, a 26-year member of the Florida Bar, says people can also contribute by mailing checks to her office, 2929 SW Third Ave., Suite 420, Miami, FL 33129-2710.
Carnell was playing in the courtyard of the Arthur Mays Villas public housing apartment complex in Goulds at 6:18 p.m. Friday when he was hit by a stray bullet.
On Saturday, Miami-Dade police announced the reward for information leading to the arrest of Carnell’s killer had been boosted from the normal $3,000 to $23,000. By Sunday, the reward was up to $25,000.
