A man throwing out his garbage Sunday afternoon discovered the body of a small child inside a Southwest Miami-Dade apartment complex’s Dumpster, according to police.
By Sunday evening, detectives were combing the complex for clues into how the little girl — believed to be between 3 and 8-years-old — ended up in the trash.
“They are going to go through that Dumpster, inside and out,” said Argemis Colome, a police spokesman.
The Dumpster was loaded onto a flatbed tow truck and hauled away to be examined. It was not clear when the trash had last been picked up.

Just after 12:30 p.m. Sunday, the man called 911 to report what he had found in the garbage at Tuscany Place, 254th Street and 137th Avenue.
When officers arrived they found the little girl’s body inside, Colome said. It was not immediately clear whether there had been any reports of missing children that could be a match.
The girl’s body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine how she died.
The only details detectives have released is the body is that of a black girl between the ages of 3 and 8.
No one has come forward with anymore information on the child, Colome said.
“Anything involving a child is always going to be difficult,” he said. “This hits everybody.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
