Truck set on fire in front of Hialeah home
A man set a truck on fire at about 11:35 p.m. Sunday when it was parked in front of a Hialeah home.
The 2003 Chevy pickup truck belonged to Hector Rodriguez La Fuentes and was parked at 470 E. 51st St. The cause of the fire was arson, police said.
This was the second time La Fuentes had a vehicle damaged by fire. On Aug. 10, his Mercedes-Benz caught fire in front of his home; the cause remains unknown, police said. After the Aug. 10 incident, he installed video cameras in front of his home.
He provided video footage to police after Sunday’s incident.
No other vehicles were harmed, but the truck was completely destroyed, Hialeah Police Lt. Carl Zogby said.
In the surveillance video, a man is seen getting out of the passenger side of a vehicle, which has a driver, Zogby said. The video shows a man going up to the truck, pouring something over it, walking away, and soon after, the truck catches fire. After that, the man is seen running away and hopping into the vehicle, which appears to be an SUV.
“We believe it is someone who knows the victim and intended revenge of some sort,” Zogby said.
Zogby said that the victim did not know who it could be, but that the man could be dangerous.
“People who commit these acts of violence against property could easily escalate to acts of violence against people,” he said.
Police are asking anyone with knowledge of this act to contact them at 305-953-5300.
