Motorcyclist dies after trying to pass a bus, police say

A man on a motorcycle was killed over the weekend after he tried to pass a Miami-Dade Transit bus making a turn in Hialeah, according to police.

The accident happened just before 7 p.m. Sunday at West 68th Street and Third Court.

According to police, Ewens Louis, 25, was driving a transit bus westbound on West 68 Street in front of a Kent Del Rio motorcycle driven by Gabriel Rodriguez, 31.

Police say Rodriguez “attempted to overtake the transit bus by traveling through a barricaded area” as the bus made a right turn on West Third Court.

Rodriguez then “attempted to avoid a collision and began sliding until he reached final rest under the bus,” police said.

The bus was able to stop just north of the intersection.

Rodriguez died at the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
