A bicyclist was hit and killed by a car Monday evening in Hialeah as he crossed a busy thoroughfare, according to Hialeah police.
Spokesman Lt. Carl Zogby said “it appeared to be just a tragic accident.”
According to Zogby, the bicyclist was crossing West 16th Avenue at about West 30th Street around 6 p.m. when a black Hyundai sedan heading north on West 16th Avenue struck him.
The driver of the car remained on scene and was speaking with investigators, Zogby said. It appeared that the man on the bicycle was not in a crosswalk.
“The driver may have not seen him,” Zogby said.
West 16th Avenue in both directions was shut down for the investigation, Zogby said.
A man who was driving in the area said he stopped to help after seeing a commotion. The man, who did not want to be identified, said he tried giving the bicyclist CPR “but it was too late.”
