Hialeah police have arrested a man suspected of shooting and killing a woman and injuring another outside a Hialeah nightclub earlier this month.

Jorge Salgado Polanco, 44, of Hialeah, was charged Tuesday with one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder after police said he shot and killed his ex-girlfriend and injured another woman in the parking lot of Las Tabernas de Wancho at 2100 W 76th St. in the early morning hours of Dec. 14.

Polanco waited in the parking lot for the two women to leave the nightclub, then approached them and shot several times into their vehicle, killing his ex-girlfriend, 44-year-old Niury Dlima, of Hialeah, and critically injuring her friend Estela Cuba, 50, of Miami Springs, according to police.

Polanco and Dlima had been in a relationship for about 10 years and had recently split up, police said.

“He was very distraught and unhappy about the break-up and that is believed to be his motive for the shooting,” according to police.

Polanco was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in West Miami-Dade where he remains on no bond.

Arrest records show that Polanco was previously charged with kidnapping, arson and resisting an officer without violence in two unrelated cases.
