A former assistant basketball coach at Hialeah Gardens High School was arrested and charged with two counts each of lewd and lascivious conduct and one count of lewd and lascivious molestation.

Two of the victims were 17 years old, the third was 15, according to the police report.

Javier Alejandro Cuenca, 33, is alleged to have fondled one victim’s genitals while administering anabolic steroids without a prescription, according to a news release from the Miami-Dade Police Department.

In a separate incident, Cuenca is alleged to have asked a boy to expose himself and tried to fondle his genitals. The teen immediately slapped Cuenca‘s hand and ran away, according to police

Arrested Friday, Cuenca is also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor by providing a controlled substance.

Cuenca, who is 6-foot, 5-inches tall and 240 pounds, coached both boys high school basketball. The incidents allegedly happened from 2012 to 2014, the report shows.

“The employee was terminated by the school district in 2013 when the original allegation was made,” wrote John Schuster, a spokesman for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, in an email on Monday. “Miami-Dade Schools Police immediately launched an investigation into the alleged misconduct; however, initially, there was insufficient evidence to further a criminal case. Information recently supplied by county police helped close the investigation.”

Authorities continue to investigate and ask victims or anyone with information to contact the Miami-Dade Police Department, Special Victims Bureau, at 305-715-3300.
