Two men died Monday night after a gruesome crash involving a stolen vehicle and bicyclist in Model City, according to Miami police.

"It was a very tragic accident," Miami Police Lt. Freddie Cruz said.

Cruz said the man, who has not been identified, was speeding southbound on Northwest 12th Avenue in an Infinity that was reported stolen out of Sunny Isles Beach. At Northwest 54th Street, the car, which was not being chased, hit a bicyclist and dragged the body for about a block before crashing into a tree, he said.

"The impact was so severe the tree actually snapped, falling over the car and the vehicle burst into flames," said Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll.

Carroll said the car landed in front of a home on the corner of Northwest 12th Avenue and 53rd Street. Several witnesses ran over to help the man inside the car, but the flames were too strong, Carroll said.

Both the cyclist and the man in the car died. Police did not identify the cyclist.

“This is probably one of the worst accidents we have seen in a while,” Carroll said.
