Cops search for suspects in deadly shooting of 21-year-old man near Miami high school
Detectives are seeking two male suspects involved in the deadly shooting of a 21-year-old man that took place near a high school in Miami on Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.
The men, whose names have not been released, were seen near Miami Edison Senior High School wearing hoodies and armed with handguns, Officer Kiara Delva, a spokeswoman with Miami police, said in an email.
On Thursday, police identified the victim as Enoc Maldonado of Miami.
Pastor Santy Jimenez of Iglesia Virtud, a church in Miami-Dade County, said Thursday his congregation is mourning the loss of Maldonado. The church started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help his family with funeral and burial costs.
“[He was] an incredible young man with an unforgettable smile, a brother, a son and a dear friend to many,” he wrote in Spanish on a Facebook post.
At 2:27 p.m. Wednesday, officers received a call of a person shot at Northwest 59th Street and Fifth Court, where they found Maldonado with several gunshot wounds, Officer Michael Vega, a Miami police spokesman, said hours after the shooting.
He was then taken to Jackson’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, dying shortly after, according to authorities.
“It had nothing to do with the school,” Vega said.
As of Thursday afternoon, police didn’t say what prompted the shooting.
