A new community and fitness center has opened in Brownsville, what was once considered one of Miami’s most blighted neighborhoods.

The center, at 5120 NW 24th Ave., opened in partnership with the José Milton Foundation and Neighbors and Neighbors Association to “create a safe place for high school students of the area to go after school and on weekends to seek mentors, interact with peers, and learn about healthy living while releasing tension, getting fit, and enjoying a workout,” according to a news release.
