Tourist struck by personal watercraft while standing in Biscayne Bay
A tourist standing in the water near Flagler Monument Island was struck by a personal watercraft Sunday afternoon and was rushed to the hospital, according to Miami Fire Rescue.
Miami Fire Rescue Fireboat 2 was patrolling Biscayne Bay just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday when people on Flagler Monument Island flagged them down.
When the boat arrived, crews found a man, between 55 and 60 years old, who had been hit by a personal watercraft. The man's companion told rescuers that the driver of the personal watercraft beached the vessel and then disappeared.
The injured man, who is visiting from New York, was put on the Fireboat and taken to Bayside Marketplace where paramedics took him to Ryder Trauma Center.
