Police: Fight between two drivers leads to ‘road rage incident’

Miami police are looking for the driver of a Mercedes C-Class who shot another driver during what detectives are calling a “road rage incident.”

The shooting happened at about 11:30 Thanksgiving night at the intersection of Northeast Second Avenue and 13th Street.

According to police, the driver of a black Rolls Royce and the driver of the black Mercedes got in an argument and when they pulled up to a red light, they began physically fighting. Police said the Rolls Royce driver, identified as 34-year-old Edward Zapata, got out of his car and approached the Mercedes, police said.

When the light turned green, the Mercedes driver pulled out a gun and shot Zapata in the chest, police said. The Mercedes driver then took off.

Zapata was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center where he underwent surgery.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
