Miami police are asking the community for help in finding the suspect, or suspects, behind a drive-by shooting Tuesday night that left one man dead and another in critical condition.

Around 6:45 p.m., Miami Police Spokesperson Michael Vega said Juan Gabriel Chaneton, 42, and another unidentified man were on a sidewalk in the area of Southwest 10th Avenue and Fourth Street when a car pulled alongside them and opened fire before speeding away.

Chaneton died at the scene, while the other man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police did not have an ID on a possible suspect or the vehicle they were driving. Detectives believe the shooting was targeted and there is no threat to the community.

“We need anyone that was in this area between 6:40 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., and saw a vehicle leaving this area or saw what happened in the shooting, to please contact the City of Miami Police Department,” Vega said. “Please give us that information as it is crucial in solving this case....”

Officers did bring one witness back to the police station to discuss what they saw. Police are also canvassing the area and looking at video footage from nearby homes and businesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 or the Miami Police Department at 305-579-6111.
