A 72-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a Metrobus in downtown Miami, cops say
A 72-year-old woman was killed Monday in downtown Miami after being hit by a Miami-Dade Transit bus, according to authorities.
The accident happened just after 11:30 a.m. in the area of Southwest First Street and Southwest Second Avenue.
The woman — who has not yet been named — was headed north on the crosswalk, attempting to cross Southwest First Street when she was hit, Miami-Dade police said.
The bus, police added, was headed south on Southwest Second Avenue when the driver attempted to turn left on Southwest First Street and hit the woman.
Miami police wrote via Twitter at 12:15 p.m. that drivers couldn’t go east on Southwest First Street at Second Avenue. Traffic in the area was sent north and south on Southwest Second Avenue.
An overhead shot of the scene by NBC6 showed a Metrobus, no other vehicles in the area, and the yellow tarp used for covering bodies over someone almost under the bus on the driver’s side and toward the rear.
Police said all six people on the bus were uninjured.
