Downtown Miami

What was in that crate that led to a Miami bomb squad closing several downtown streets?

Miami police officers and the unit’s bomb squad wondered why there was a crate blocking the intersection of Southeast First Avenue and Second Street in downtown Miami on Friday morning.

What was in that crate?

After a couple hours’ investigation and the closing of roads at Southeast First and Second avenues and Southeast First and Fourth streets, we have some answers.

According to Kiara Delva, an officer with the Miami police department, detectives from the bomb squad unit determined that the crate was a box of pallets.

The roads have reopened and the area is considered safe, Delva said before noon on Friday.

Officers had responded to the area at around 3:50 a.m. regarding the crate blocking the roadway.

No word on who dumped, or lost, the pallets on the road.
