Doral vigil for missing mother, daughter
A massive search for a missing Doral woman and her daughter intensified Friday when police found the girl’s father distraught and with self-inflicted stab wounds in his truck in the parking lot of a Home Depot in Hialeah Gardens.
Gustavo Castano was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center in stable condition. The finding prompted investigators, who have been looking for Liliana Moreno, 43, and her 9-year-old daughter Daniela Moreno since early in the week, to ramp up what was already an immense search.
Castano’s truck was impounded and searched and police began scouring a canal behind the big box store at 13895 W. Okeechobee Rd. Law enforcement sources said detectives have interviewed several people about the disappearance, including Castano, who is considered a person of interest.
Shortly before Castano was located, police issued a countywide bulletin to be on the lookout for him, fearing Castano was going to harm himself.
Police, led by Miami-Dade County authorities, began searching for Moreno and Daniela on Tuesday after relatives called from Colombia saying they hadn’t heard from the family in several days. An initial search at their Doral apartment turned up Moreno’s purse and wallet, a locked front door and her car in the parking lot.
Police have said repeatedly they suspect foul play and Moreno’s relatives arrived from Colombia earlier this week to help in the search.
Police have searched for Moreno and Daniela on land and in lakes. At one point, they went to a Medley warehouse owned by Castano. There, police searched inside and out, in dumpsters and in surrounding wooded lots.
Police haven’t said what led them to the warehouse or if they’ve found anything significant during the search.
